My Hero

EDGAR ALLAN POE

(Source : (http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01498/poeEdgar_Allan_Poe_1498622c.jpg)

Why is it that people always assume that dark minds are insane? Edgar Allan Poe is remembered for his dark, creepy, twisted tales and poems. Many people believed that because Poe came up with such poems, he, like the subjects in his stories, was insane. However, these macabre tales showed just how much Poe understood the world around him. While writing these stories Poe began to understand not only the human mind, but also the world and universe that surrounded him. It took a long time for people to understand the world and its inhabitants the way Edgar Allan Poe did.

On January 19, 1809 Edgar Allan Poe was born, the middle child of three children to two traveling actors. In 1811 both his parents died of tuberculosis leaving him and his siblings to be divided amongst foster parents. Years later he had an argument with his foster father and dropped out of the University of Virginia, the college he attended, and moved to Baltimore to stay with relatives (Wilson). In 1827 he joined the military under the name Edgar A. Perry and published his first book of poetry. After his foster mother’s death in 1829 Poe attempted to get himself kicked out of the military, and succeeded. In 1836 he married his cousin Virginia Clemm. In 1838 he published his first novel (Nate Gillespie and David Siminoff). Then in 1842 tragedy struck; while Virginia was singing at the piano she began to bleed from the mouth, a sign of untreated tuberculosis. Poe moved to New York and took over The Broadway Journal, where he first published his work The Raven, but unfortunately the journal failed in 1846 (Nate Gillespie and David Siminoff). The next year Virginia couldn’t hold on any longer and she died, leaving Poe a terribly depressed man. Poe became an alcoholic and died three years after his beloved Virginia (Nate Gillespie and David Siminoff).

A book full of Poe's many works
 (http://images.alibris.com/isbn/0/3/8/5/0/0385074077.gif
The Tell-Tale HeartThe Raven, andThe Black Cat are all works in which Poe demonstrated his understanding of human psychology. In all of the listed works the main character falls ill to his own insanity. In the second paragraph of The Tell-Tale Heart the narrator explains why he made his decision to kill an old man he loved: “I think it was his eye! Yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture - a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees - very gradually - I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever” (Poe, 1843). The man was haunted by the ghostly eye and decided to kill the old man, but through the entire story he claims he is not insane because he committed the crime with such precision, so calmly he simply could not be insane. However, in the end the man cannot stand his own guilt and turns himself in. Poe explores the insanity of the man to the point where he thinks of the motive, the guilt, and how the man is so insane he does not know he is insane. In The Black Cat a man is haunted by a cat that eventually uncovers the wife he murdered to the police. Again Poe explores the psyche of the person to the point he thinks of motive, a life story, and how the man feels afterward. He digs into the details of the human mind in order to understand humanity itself. In the days Poe lived people didn’t look into the minds of the ‘insane’ to find out what was truly happening. One cannot understand humanity without understanding all aspects of humanity. Because of these stories in which Poe gave others the opportunity to understand the human mind, Poe became dubbed insane instead of genius. His understanding of the very details of the human mind that no one else dared to comprehend led him to understand the world.

Poets describe things that aren’t always realistic to be metaphorical, but when Poe wrote Eureka in 1848 he wasn’t making a metaphor. He was contemplating relativity, chemical affinity, other universes, black holes, the planetary structure of an atom, and molecular structures. "I design to speak of the Physical, Metaphysical and Mathematical—of the Material and Spiritual Universe: - of its Essence, its Origin, its Creation, its Present Condition and its Destiny" (G.). Poe scribbled out these words a year after his wife’s death in a sort of frenzy. They explained the purpose ofEureka; to record his observations of the world around him. Poe talked about several things in this book that weren’t officially discovered for years. Relativity, for example, was credited to Einstein in 1905, yet Poe was writing about it in 1848 (G.). He also wrote about chemical affinity which wasn’t understood in the details Poe understood it until 1917 (G.). It is not possible that Poe's writings could have been influenced by the discoveries of others because the time gap was too large for him to have been able to confer with the official finders of such things (G.). These discoveries were indeed his own. Considering he had more primitive and less efficient equipment than the scientist who later made the same discoveries, Poe’s work is truly impressive. He applied the same method he used to explain the universe as he did the human mind. He thought of a reason something does what it does, the way it completes these actions, and the results of the completed action. He explored the world all the way down to a tiny molecule and all the way into space and galaxies beyond our own. Eureka stands as a recording of Poe’s scientific findings.

Edgar Allan Poe is an inspiration because he went beyond the limits of others at the time. He looked into the details of the mind and universe in order to understand how everything around him functioned. He brilliantly figured out science and psychology. He contemplated things too far away for most minds to think about during his time. He left records of his findings in his books and poems for everyone to read. Just by picking up one of his works you can think about what top scientists think about every day. What Poe gave people as a glimpse of the world they read as entertainment instead of as a source of learning. Even Eureka wasn’t appreciated as a scientific journal because Poe was a writer, not a scientist. The work was cast aside and ignored and the profound discoveries of Poe were credited to other great scientific minds. Despite the ignorance of his readers, Poe was still a great philosopher for reading into all the details of the world and people around him.

Abandoned By God

In the 1980s a secret experiment was held by the goverment, the experiment was about communicating with god, they hypothesized that our senses are blocking us to god, so in order to communicate with god one must lose sense of touch, hearing, sight, smell and taste. One person volunteered to be the subject of the experimentation because he has nothing left in his life and he rather die useful to other people than dying alone.

The removal of senses was a really painfull procedure involving the brain and some nerve systems but the man could bare the pain and lived through the procedure.

On the first day the man was still a normal person he could still talk and he was still adapting to the loss of his senses. on the second day he said that he started hearing whispers, the scientists think of it as just a made up response by the brain due the the lack of impulses coming to the brain.

On the third day he couldn't stop rambling about the whispers. The scientists still think that the whispers were just an impulse from the brain untill the man mentioned some of the scientists dead relatives. Some couldn't stand it and resigned from the experiment but still some who are strong enough stayed through. on the fouth day the man talked about how god is communicating to him and saying that humans has become corrupted and that god will end them all if they didn;t stop all the corruption and chaos that has happened. Because of that some of the remaining scientists resign again.

On the last few days the man kept speaking in a gibberish language, those inaudible gibberish then becomes screaming not in pain but because of the whispers that aren't actually whispers anymore but just violent screaming that is happening inside the man's head. On the next day the man started tearing his skin and flesh, banging his head to the wall until he bled just to get a response. The scientists had to sedate and confine him due to his violent behaviour. on the last day he started crying and speaking nonsense like "we are all gonna die" and "there is no  hope for us", and his last words were " there is no heaven or hell, no redemption for the good and no punishment for the sinfull because after death there is only the void. why? because... GOD HAS LEFT US ", then after he said that he died. The remaining scientists did an autopsy on the man's corpse and showed no damage on internal organs. only his recent damage to his outer flesh and skin were damaged. the only disturbing thing that was found during his autopsy was his brain. His brain was pure black and when it was cut in half the words " Abandoned By God " Was engraved to his brain.

My Unforgetable Moments At Junior High School

When I Almost Got Robbed

It happened when I was still in junior high school. I was walking home after school on a very beautifull day which is friday. I was searching for a public transportation, specifically the ones that passes my house. I was walking down the street which the public transportations ussualy pass, there were benches on that street. Many people were sitting on those benches, one man who was sitting on one of those benches was suspicously looking at me. I didn't notice him at first because i don't care about my surroundings and because it was friday which means i'm very happy on that day because tomorrow i wouldn't have to go to school.

When i was approaching the intersection the man that was suspiciously looking at me followed me. Again i didn't notice him following me, because i thought that he was going somewhere too or waiting for some other public transportation.

When i was at the intersection the man that was folowing me distracted me poking my right leg. He did that because he observed that my phone was on my left pocket therefore he poked my right leg which causes me to pay less attention to my left leg. When i was looking at my right leg the man that poked me ran to a motorcycle driven by the man's asociate. Another man then quickly grabbed my phone from my pocket and tried to hide it, but i saw him first and confronted him. He was really scared when i confronted him knowing his plot to steal my phone has been debunked, but at that time I was still a forgiving guy, so i let him live and didn't even harm him a little bit he gave me my phone back too and said that it dropped from my pocket, although i knew that he was lying. He was lucky because if he stole my phone now he would most likely go to the hospital

When I Got Stuck In The Toilet

this happened when I was still in 7th grade. it was a thursday which meant it was mathematics as the frist subject. i really hated math because the teacher was really mean and gave a lot of hard assignments and homework.

When i was at school i felt that my stomach is constipated, but i tried to hold it of for this morning and go to the toilet in the afternoon. But then i was wrong because at math i couldn't hold it anymore and i went to the toilet. at the toilet i went straight to the toilet and took a dump. After i was done and i was going to clean myself but the water was out. I didn't know what to do so i sat there for about fifteen minutes.

I was lucky when one of my friend was sent by the teacher and asked what is going on. I then explained to him that the water was out. he then came back tto the classroom and told the teacher what happened. He then instructed all of my friends to collect water and give it to me. I was then relieved when my friend gave the bucket full of water to me. After i got out from the toilet and got back to the class room everybody laughs including the teacher. And that moment is one of the moments that me and my firends will never forget

Auschwitz Concertration Camp

Auschwitz concentration camp was a network of German Nazi concentration camps and extermination camps built and operated by the Third Reich in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during World War II. It consisted of Auschwitz I (the original camp), Auschwitz II–Birkenau (a combination concentration/extermination camp), Auschwitz III–Monowitz (a labor camp to staff an IG Farben factory), and 45 satellite camps.

Auschwitz I was first constructed to hold Polish political prisoners, who began to arrive in May 1940. The first extermination of prisoners took place in September 1941, and Auschwitz II–Birkenau went on to become a major site of the Nazi Final Solution to the Jewish Question. From early 1942 until late 1944, transport trains delivered Jews to the camp's gas chambers from all over German-occupied Europe, where they were killed with the pesticide Zyklon B. At least 1.1 million prisoners died at Auschwitz, around 90 percent of them Jewish; approximately 1 in 6 Jews killed in the Holocaust died at the camp.Others deported to Auschwitz included 150,000 Poles, 23,000 Romani and Sinti, 15,000 Soviet prisoners of war, 400 Jehovah's Witnesses, and tens of thousands of others of diverse nationalities, including an unknown number of homosexuals. Many of those not killed in the gas chambers died of starvation, forced labor, infectious diseases, individual executions, and medical experiments.

In the course of the war, the camp was staffed by 7,000 members of the German Schutzstaffel (SS), approximately 12 percent of whom were later convicted of war crimes. Some, including camp commandant Rudolf Höss, were executed. The Allied Powers refused to believe early reports of the atrocities at the camp, and their failure to bomb the camp or its railways remains controversial. One hundred forty-four prisoners are known to have escaped from Auschwitz successfully, and on October 7, 1944, two Sonderkommando units—prisoners assigned to staff the gas chambers—launched a brief, unsuccessful uprising.

As Soviet troops approached Auschwitz in January 1945, most of its population was evacuated and sent on a death march. The prisoners remaining at the camp were liberated on January 27, 1945, a day now commemorated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In the following decades, survivors, such as Primo Levi, Viktor Frankl, and Elie Wiesel, wrote memoirs of their experiences in Auschwitz, and the camp became a dominant symbol of the Holocaust. In 1947, Poland founded the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum on the site of Auschwitz I and II, and in 1979, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Camping Trip

On the 10th of September 2016 me and my family went on a camping trip. We went camping for one day. The trip was really fun and exciting since not only my main family went there but my aunt, uncle and cousins also came to the camping trip. In the morning we got up early and packed our bags. Before we went to the camping site we had breakfast first and met with my uncle’s friend which will also come to the camping trip with his family. After we had our breakfast we went to the camping site.
It was a really long trip from the restaurant to the camping site. The trip took about 2 hours because of traffic. We were really tired after we arrived. After we arrived we opened the trunk and got our bags and went straight to the camping site. It was nott a really long walk to the camping site but after we made it there we went to our tents. In our tents we unpacked our bags and had a rest, I then fell asleep because I was very tired. I woke up at about 18.00 when it was starting to go dark. After I woke up from my sleep we started the campfire and baked our marshmallow some of it were overcooked but some of it were also perfectly baked which was really delicious. After we ate the marshmallow we had dinner. After we had dinner we went to sleep in our tents.
On the next day we woke up very early and prayed first. Today everybody was really excited because we were going trekking, I was not happy though because I’m not a big fan of long walks in the forest but my mother forced to go trekking. We then went trekking to the forest, it was more fun than what I expected. The trip took about half an hour through the nearby forest, in the middle of the trip we found some glasses I think it fell from someone in front so we took it to give it to the lost and found. The trip was really tiring; I was really exhausted after the trip. After trekking there was a really fun ride, it was basically a bicycle on a metal string. We rode to the middle of the string with that bicycle, some of us were really scared but i was certainly not scared because i knew no matter what i do i won’t fall. After we went to our tents, packed our bags and then went back home

The September 11 Attacks

The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States on the morning of 11 september 2001. The attacks killed 2,996 people and injured over 6,000 others. It caused $ 10 billion of infrastructure damage and $ 3 trillion in total cost
It was a really devastating event since it collapsed two buildings and damaging one.those buildings were the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Many people lost their relatives because of this attack.to honor those who died in the event the 9/11 memorial was made on the foundation of one of the collapsed tower.
The September 11 attacks happened because four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists. The planes departed from northeastern United States bound to California. Two of the planes crashed into the north and the south towers of the World Trade Center. One plane was crashed to the pentagon which is the headquarters of trhe united states department of defense.the fourth plane was steered towards Washington D.C but crashed to a field in Stonycreek Township near Shanksville,Pennsylvania.
The United States responded to this attack by launching the “war on terror” and the invasion of afghanistan to dispose of the taliban which helped the al-Qaeda.Many countries strengthened their law enforcement,anti-terrorism legislation and intelligence agency to prevent any future terrorist attacks.although the leader of al-Qaeda,Osama bin Laden denied involvement to the attacks,in 2004 he claimed responsibility for the attacks.Bin Laden was then located and killed by the seal team six.
The destruction of the World Trade Center caused a serious damage to the economy of lower manhattan and had a significant impact to global markets. Many closings, evacuations, and cancellations happened out of fear of further attacks. The cleanup of the World Trade Center was completed 0n may 2002,construction of one of the World Trade Center began in 18 november 2006 and was completed on 3 november 2014.many memorials have been constructed due to the attacks such as the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City, the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington County, Virginia, and the Flight 93 National Memorial in a field in Stonycreek Township near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The people behind the attacks, the al-Qaeda have many motives on why they attacked. One of those motives are the US support of israel, israel and palestine had been waging wars at that time and the US supported the israel that was destroying palestine which is a muslim country.there are also other motives of the september 11 attacks which are sanctions imposed against iraq. There are also some other speculations on the september 11 attacks.some people speculate that the attacks were a religious motivation which was seen as "a sacrament ... intended to restore to the universe a moral order that had been corrupted by the enemies of Islam".Some people also speculate that the attacks were to provoke america into a war that incites pan-islamist revolution, the attacks are best understood as being part of a religious conflict within the Muslim world.
